  • Craft Coop exhibition

    Fri 05 May 2023

For the entire month of April, year 9 and 10 students had the great privilege of having their work exhibited at the Craft Coop in Windsor. Their work looked wonderful and received many compliments from shoppers and passers-by. The paintings on canvas were inspired by Claude Monet’s impressionist style and the mural in the middle was a mosaic painted on little tiles inspired by the sea. The pictures were made by year 9, some of them inspired by Pete Gilbert and others by Monet. The year 10 were especially content to have their work exhibited and the work was for sale, but unfortunately none were sold. If you are perhaps interested in any of the work please get in touch with me.

‘Our inspiration for this art piece was based on a famous painting by Monet who was known for his art with lily pads. The experience of making this piece was fun for me and my friend who made it because we got to try a new style of art and we learnt a new technique of painting while doing it. ‘

    Arthur and Shaun, year 10

‘I’ve used multiple shades of green to create this painting and used Monet’s technique of layering to paint the greenery all over the canvas. I used a sponge to make the water lily pads. I regret not painting the background blue before I started the painting to capture the sky, because of that I covered the whole painting in greenery. Overall, this painting was a fun one to make and its inspired by Monet’s paintings of the outdoors.’

    Mirza, year 10

    Please enjoy the paintings.

  • Football - District Quarter Final - U15A v Wexham

    Thu 04 May 2023

From the first whistle, Windsor Boys’ pressed well and controlled possession with Wexham firmly on the back foot. It took a while to break through, but then James Field found himself in a space to score with a nice left foot finish. This started the flow of goals and there only looked like one winner. The next was a goal from Devon Hill scoring off the post and the third was added by Ben Mongey with a neat header from a corner. Harry Evans scored the last goal of the half with a really nice goal off the crossbar which left the keeper no chance to save. There could and should have been more, but due to some poor finishing and excellent keeping, we went in at half time 4-0 up. Second half kicked off and the game nearly won, Windsor made some changes giving keeper Leo Murrell the chance to show his skills at the other end of the pitch. Wexham took advantage of this and got one back after a messy goal mouth scramble but we then answered with Rufus Gilbert scoring a tap in to make it 5-1. Windsor gave a penalty away after a handball in the box and Wexham converted despite the diving effort from stand in keeper Kian Afroog. With a few minutes to go we get a penalty, Leo Murrell stepped up and converted calmly to finish the game 6-2.

  • 1st XI v Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)

    Fri 28 Apr 2023

On Friday 28th April we hosted an MCC representative side for our annual out-match against the oldest club side. The MCC team was comprised of many high level league players and so are an experienced and very capable men’s side that took on the best boys from TWBS from Years 10-13, captained by Karl-Christian Ziemkendorf. As is custom, the boys took to the field first (looking resplendent in their commemorative match day shirts sponsored by Tag.

Omnichannel Marketing Services) after a slightly delayed start due to the morning drizzle. The School opening bowlers Bailey Niblett and Marcus Downey (both Year 11) bowled tidy spells (indeed Niblett found the opening batter’s outside edge first ball of the game, but the catch frustratingly went between the wicketkeeper and slip fielder).  Charlie Kingsford took a sharp chance at cover soon after from Niblett’s bowling, however drinks were taken after the first hour, MCC 41/1 after 15 overs. Change bowlers Tegh Banse, Kingsford and Kian Watson strained every sinew after drinks, but the MCC ship was steadied and lunch was taken 123/1 after 30 overs. Further fluent batting from the MCC probationers enabled them to declare before tea 200/2.  This was not a fair reflection of the high levels of skill and determination that the School XI showed in the field, but it was a true reflection of the high quality of opposition that MCC brought to the game. Perhaps inevitably, after over 40 overs in the field and in the first game of the season, the TWBS batting lacked both the concentration and application to really push on and threaten chasing down a very good score. Bailey Niblett was presented with the Spirit of Cricket award by MCC captain on the day David Heavyside for not only his excellent bowling, but also for his honesty and upholding of the spirit of the game by walking after edging a ball to slip when there was doubt over him hitting it.

A superb day of cricket could not have happened without our main sponsor for the day Tag Omnichannel Marketing Services (www.tagww.com) the absolutely fantastic pitch and outfield prepared by Lewis Clements and George Gould (CG Groundcare) and the wonderful lunch and tea services provided by our own Chef Kev and a host of Year 10 and Year 11 pupils. The Friends of TWBS also get my utmost thanks for the organisation of everything off the field – the drinks, the dressing up of the pavilion and their support all day to ensure everything ran smoothly, as does Mr Woods for his expertise in scoring and Mr Higgs for his part in organising the school team and umpire for the day.  My thanks also goes to Mr Seeburg for the amazing action photos of the boys in action playing the game!

  • U15 Rugby squad Filming

    Wed 26 Apr 2023

On Wednesday our U15 Rugby squad were invited to a filming session at Maidenhead RFC. It was an incredible opportunity for the boys to take part in what will become a national programme that will be rolled out to all RFU member schools, clubs, coaches and referees over the coming months, as well as on YouTube. This is part of the RFU Tackle height safety coach and referee training package to educate everyone involved in the game to adjust to the new guidance on Tackle height and safety. The boys were really engaged all morning and came away with a great understanding of how to tackle safely as they move onto their tour to Toronto, Canada, next month and for the new season in September.

  • Frontline Living History visit

    Tue 25 Apr 2023

The History department was thrilled to welcome back Frontline living history for the third year to enhance the learning of Year 9 on the weapons and injuries of WW1. The boys all thoroughly enjoyed their interactive workshops and have hopefully already told you all about it at home. Some Year 10 cadets also joined in on the fun. As always, the students did themselves and the school proud – with Frontline saying how lovely they were.

‘On Tuesday 25th and 26th April, Year 9 students took part in a spectacular Frontline History experience. Two gentlemen came in dressed as army officers to teach us about WW1 and trenches. They showed us features of the trench and methods of transport for injured soldiers. We passed around objects such as shells and bullets that were replicas, or actually from the war itself. We also tried on soldiers’ hats and helmets seeing what the different countries used.

Another exciting thing was trying on gas masks ranging from a cloth bag with eye holes to a proper gas mask. It was overall a great experience with interesting facts, surprises and jokes all the way.’ -  Alex C

‘I enjoyed the Frontline History event a lot and holding different weapons and being told how they worked. It was fun to watch how they explained what the items were and why they used in them the war and what they did to be so deadly.’ -  Jake M

‘On Wednesday 26th April, my class and some others took part in Frontline History. Two guys came in dressed in WWI outfits, one a sergeant and one an officer. They brought in a range of things from guns to grenades. I learnt a lot and really enjoyed myself when wearing the different helmets and holding the weapons. I thought it was a very good experience’ – Alfie A

‘Today’s event was action packed with them teaching us about the tools, guns and armor used in the war. They thoroughly taught us each thing with the
videos and pictures in the background. We had many chances to try the tools and could even test some for example the gas masks. Today’s event was pretty good as they took us through most equipment soldiers used to defend themselves - Miran Y

‘This workshop was brilliant due to the fact we could see all of the weapons and equipment in the flesh and the people were super nice. It was fascinating to hear the people speak their thoughts on the war.‘ Jake B

‘Today, myself and my class had a History WW1 workshop and it was amazing. Two men fully dressed in WW1 officer and soldier clothes told us all about WW1 and the trenches and how they worked and we even got to hold all sorts of weapons and tools and even got to try the helmets and the armor. They even sprayed smells of the gases around the room to understand what it smelt like.’ Finlay R

  • TWBS visit TVLP event on International Women’s Day

    Wed 08 Mar 2023

On Wednesday 8th March, TWBS attended a TVLP event on International Women's Day at St. Mary's, Ascot.  On arrival we were greeted by over 200 girls and teachers welcoming us as the only group of boys on the campus.  They were certainly not phased at being outnumbered and held their ground well on topics they had little knowledge on. There were interesting presentations by inspirational women, such as Eleanor Drage and Lizzie Gaisman.

The boys learnt a lot in a short space of time.  Ayaan Hussain was awarded star student for his bravery and courage in participating on the Plenary panel discussion, and Laksh Bajaj was also given Uno Animo points for spraying the most aftershave. This gave the pair of boys the desired outcome of being invited to eat their lunch with a table full of young ladies! All of the boys certainly seemed to enjoy their day.

  • Football – 2nd XI Football vs Slough and Eton

    Thu 23 Feb 2023

On Thursday, the 2nd XI Football team faced Slough and Eton in the School League.  It was a dream start for Windsor as they scored right from kick off.  A deep precise pass from Tegh Banse found the on-rushing Peter Brant, who chested the ball and finished calmly with the quickest goal ever scored for Windsor in under seven seconds. After this, the game was one-way traffic and Windsor found themselves 5-0 up at half-time with goals from Jack Ranner, Oskar Reisi, James Miller and a 40-yard effort from Harvey Chappell.  The second half continued the same as the first with further goals from Reisi x2 (hat-trick), Miller, Tomiwa Abiola and Ellis Short resulting in a convincing 10-1 win for Windsor.

  • Football - 1st XI Football vs Piggott School

    Wed 22 Feb 2023

On Wednesday, the 1st XI team played against Piggott School in the School League.  The game started tensely, with both teams making mistakes and allowing the opposition in goal, but both sides missed a host of chances. As the first half progressed, Windsor Boys’ managed to find the back of the net twice, with clinical finishes from Tom Jansen.  Piggott School continued to push forward but were kept at bay by Freddie Ramsden-Head in the Windsor goal.  In the second half Windsor changed formation to play on the counterattack, which allowed Piggott more possession.  However, this worked well as Will Gillies broke clear and won a penalty that was coolly converted by Oli Bach. As the game continued, Piggott had chance e after chance but could not finish them with the outstanding Ramsden head pulling off save after save. The game finished 3-1 with Windsor holding on but overall it was a well fought victory.

  • U16 vs Oratory School – Tournament

    Mon 20 Feb 2023

The U16 Rugby team went to St James's Senior Boys’ School to play a Rugby 7’s tournament.  Having not played much 7’s before, the opening game against Oratory School was an eye opening experience that ended in an unfortunate 33-12 defeat. However, we learnt very quickly and got better throughout the tournament, beating Burnham Grammar School, Radnor House and finally St James’ in the final game. This meant we finished 2nd overall and came away with a well-deserved silver medal. Player of the tournament was Mani Hilton.
