  • The Film Club is back

    Fri 23 Apr 2021

The Media Studies department launched on Tuesday 10th of December its new after school Film Club with the screening of Tim Burton’s 2003 film Big Fish, a heart-warming tale about family bounds and communication between fathers and sons.

The purpose of the Film Club is to study some of the most remarkable and unconventional examples of filmmaking and approach their narratives and cinematic practices from analytical and critical angles, in order to expand our knowledge and understanding of the language of film in its industrial context. The Film Club will look at different eras and genres, as well as different film industries and countries, although with an obvious focus on the British and American film industries, trying to find the most remarkable examples of cinematic production, both in terms of their narratives as well as the technical aspects of film production.

After the screenings we will hold a conversation about the film and discuss aspects of narrative as well as the technical side of film production. This Film Club will certainly be of interest to students of English language and literature, drama, art, music, social sciences and philosophy, as well as any other student who may be interested in cinema or simply enjoys a good story.

The Film Club is running after school every Thursday from 15:15 to 17:30 at the Windsor Boys’ School Media Suite and it is not exclusively open to Media Students, but all students who are interested in cinema or just enjoy a good story are welcome to attend. The film is open to students of all levels, since the films selected for screening will be in the British Board of Film Classification U-15 ratings.

Some of the films screened so far have been THE TREE OF LIFE (Terrence Malik, 2011; THE ILLUSIONIST (Sylvain Chomet, 2010); ROPE (Alfred Hitchcock, 1948); Moon (Duncan Jones, 2009); 2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick, 1968); Planet of the Apes (Franklin J. Schaffner, 1968); GONE GIRL (David Fincher, 2014); NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN (Coen Brothers, 2007); SE7EN (David Fincher, 1995); and MILLER’S CROSSING (Coen Brothers, 1990).

  • Years 9 and 10 House Events Easter 2021

    Thu 01 Apr 2021

This week saw our Year 9 and Year 10 pupils all represent their House at either Hockey, Table Tennis, Drama or Quiz.

The weather was glorious for the Hockey competitions and, especially considering the lack of School Hockey over the past 12 months, the standard was impressively high. In Year 9 Ottrey finished as winners after a thrilling 1v1 shootout, and Burnett took the Year 10 title.

The Table Tennis was hyped by Mr Clark playing his favourite 90’s boyband tracks to keep the boys’ energy and skill levels high, with Ford winning both Year 9 and Year 10 competitions. The Quiz rounds were excellently compered by Mr Wilson, whose mix of niche genres and general knowledge saw 10 Ford winning on Tuesday and 9 Woodland on Thursday.

Miss Walter expertly guided the boys along a creative path for the Drama competitions, with self-penned scenes involving a camera man, a TikTok dance, a film reference, a celebrity reference and a prop being used the only criteria given. 10 Warwick were adjudged winners on Tuesday with 9 Burnett taking the crown on Thursday.

  • Sixth form encourage inclusivity in our community

    Thu 01 Apr 2021

On Monday 29th March, Miss Walter held a meeting with members of the Head Boy Team, Senior Prefects and Prefect Teams to discuss how we can work together to make TWBS a more inclusive and safe place for members of the LGBTQ+ community. The students had very frank and open conversations about their experiences and knowledge of being an ally and what changes need to made amongst the TWBS community.  Along with the help of Miss Walter and her Stonewall training, actions have been put into place that will appear around the school after the Easter holidays.

If you want to find out about how you can be an LGBTQ+ ally and how you can encourage inclusivity in our community, please come and speak to Miss Walter or any member of the Head Boy Team. For support with Gender Identity and Sexuality, you can visit https://switchboard.lgbt/
