The Arts
The Windsor Boys’ School has a strong and successful Performing & Visual Arts Faculty. Over the last 12 years we have seen the expansion of the Arts – Music, Drama, Art, Photography, Dance, Media.
All of these departments not only offer an extension curriculum programme but also a huge range of extra curricular activities. Our extra curricular programme is rich and diverse and also includes projects with local First and Middle Schools.
Our Music Department is formally linked with the Windsor Girls’ School Music Department and also works closely with First Schools & Middle Schools.
The Music Department was last year nominated for a National Award – Music Department of the Year – and has received National recognition for the work that it does both in school and in the community. Last year the Music Department took a group of students on a Concert Tour to Paris where they performed in Disneyland Paris.
Last year the Performing Arts department worked together on a Production of Les Miserables that included a cast of 60 Upper Schools students. Seen by over 1200 people the show was a huge success and as a school we were hugely proud of the achievements of the students.
There is always something going on and the departments are alive with colour, sound, vision and drama. The passion of the staff to bring opportunities to students combined with the commitment of the boys to quality and excellence leads to what is an extremely exciting atmosphere for the Arts at The Windsor Boys’ School.
The Windsor Boys’ School Art Department is creative and exciting laboratory of ideas where students produce fantastic artwork. Twice a year students have the opportunity to attend printing workshops at The Curwen Press Study Centre in Cambridge where they are taught by printmaking experts.
We have strong links with the local art and cultural community. The school exhibits work at The Windsor Contemporary Art Show and Windsor Fringe alongside professional local artists.
We are currently developing unique opportunities for students to use Windsor Castle’s wonderful collections to inspire their work. Our students also have the opportunity to attend artist talks and exhibitions at Eton College.
In the past, students have won a number of national competitions including The National Society of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies Arts Award (NAFDAS).
‘A’ level courses have enabled them to gain places to study a diverse range of creative courses including: animation, theatre design, fine art sculpture, graphic design, architecture and photography.
Here are some examples of recent student work.
At GCSE students have a choice of exciting projects inspired by art from different cultures and time periods including Maori, Mexican and Medieval art producing life size painted surfboards, clay sculptures and paintings. At ‘A’ level students develop highly personal projects excelling at portraiture. Photography students explore image making through studio work and exploring the urban and rural environment.
