TWBS Boat Club – Hampton Head of River and GB Training Day - Dec 10, 2021
The weekend gone was another all day everyday epic for the Boat Club, with J15-18s (Year 10-13) racing over at Hampton Head of River, and then five boys attending the Great Britain Rowing training Day at Caversham, home to the High Performance Centre for the GB Rowing team.
Saturday – Hampton Head of River
An early start, and a very cold, long day in Hampton saw about fifty boys racing over the 3km course, with many racing in twice, the morning and afternoon divisions. Marcus Chute, so dominant in the single scull this year, showed again he is the man to beat by winning the J18 singles event, but equally impressive was the second place for Max Bird and third place for Charlie Warren.
In the J18 doubles event, Marcus and Max teamed up to take the gold medal in the afternoon division. Meanwhile the quad of Jack Cadwallader, Charlie Ingham, Taylor Brown, and Jakob Truter did very well to come home in second place.
The J16 quads of Atti Chute, Jimmy Harlow, Sanad Al Qahef and Pedro Theriago continued their winning ways by taking the victory in the J16 quads event, while Joe Wellington showed his potential in the sport by winning the J15 singles event. Again, Windsor featured well at the top of the results page with Ruben Taylor coming home second and Adam Elliot fourth.
Over 700 boats raced across the two divisions – the scale of rowing events if never short of impressive. With four wins across the categories TWBS showed we have a lot of talent across the year groups which is exciting for the year ahead.
SUNDAY – Great Britain Training Day
Another very early start saw five boys at the High Performance Centre in Caversham for the GB training Day. Max Bird, Marcus Chute, Charlie Ingham, Dylan James and Charlie Warren showed good form once again with the rankings. Whilst not a trial, the performances across the day will be of great interest to the selectors as they continue their journey towards hopefully international vests in the summer of 2022.
