TWBS 1st XV vs Holyport College Rugby -Nov 11, 2021
It was clear that it was going to be an interesting game at Stovall when it transpired that many of the opponents were clubmates of the Windsor Boys’ senior side. From the off the game was intense with neither side willing to concede territory, possession or points. Windsor took the lead with a brilliantly worked sequence of play which ended with speedster Isaac Howard-Real dotting over in the corner. A similar pre-called pattern then saw Harry Rufus score in the other corner. The tough conversions were narrowly missed.
Holyport put some phases together until the Windsor defensive wall was too much and Alfie Snooks made a superb read to intercept and run in from the halfway line. It was then the visitors’ turn to register in the scoreboard. They took an opportunity down the vacant blindside to score a converted try.
The message at the half was to give clear pictures at the breakdown, to outwork Holyport and keep communication high. There was not much to separate the sides until Max Ratcliffe showed his opposite number a clean pair of heels and stepped inside the covering defence. Luke Austen added the extras. George Moran had a super game disrupting their possession and linking in attack. His work rate was rewarded with the last try of the game.
The final score was 31-7. Some excellent play was put together. If the team can learn from their frustrations they will be even stronger in their next game.
