Music Department Update Jun 25, 2021

On Wednesday 16th June, the cast of The Little Mermaid gathered for their first rehearsal out on the main field. It was great that the sun was shining for this Covid safe session. We have over 90 in the cast and are always happy to welcome new members. It was great to see so many smiling singers and start working on Under the Sea!

On Monday 21st June the music department were treated to a Gamelan workshop sponsored by the Indonesian Embassy. It was a fantastic day that saw over 130 students gain access to this wonderful genre of music. The workshop was run by Mike from “Inspireworks”, a local provider who specialise in world music.

On Wednesday 23rd June the Big Band gathered to rehearse and we were again lucky with the weather. It was lovely to see some year 13 students coming back to play, and many congratulations to Harvey Martin who received his Grade 8 Trumpet this week.

The Music Department are currently planning a concert that will take place outside on Wednesday 7th July. If you are interested in this event then please get in touch – There will be a number of safety measures in place and it is all weather dependent. It will include performances from all those who have been involved in music over the last year as well as some students who are returning from last year – we didn’t ever get to say a proper goodbye to them.
