Director of Music Report for TWBS – Week 9 - Nov 12, 2021

Christmas songs are now very much ringing out around the school! It is wonderful to hear the festive music and the students are working hard in preparation for the end of term. We end this term up in the Parish Church for our annual carol service, and it is one of the highlights of the year. We also have an evening service that parents can come along to the night before. I will publish all these details over the coming weeks so that you know when to join us for carols.

Before we get there, we have several carol events and you will see us at the Christmas Lights switch on in Eton on Thursday 18th November and then Windsor Town Centre on Saturday 20th.

This week we had our Service of Remembrance on Thursday 11th November. This is always a moving event, and the students mark it with respect and honour. Dan Usher in Year 12 played “The Last Post” on Trumpet and it was really well delivered. Dan is an outstanding trumpeter and is studying A-Level music. On Sunday, Dan is playing at the service in Windsor and this is a big event. I am hugely grateful to Dan for taking on this role as it is much tricker to play than one might realise.

We continue to prepare for our production of “The Little Mermaid” and the cast are now in the final stages of brining the show together. We are rehearsing every Sunday and at least two nights a week. Do make sure you don’t miss out and secure your tickets today. They are selling fast and we wouldn’t want you to miss out – https://www.trybooking.co.uk/BIAX

Sixth Form Open evening took place on Thursday evening and I was particularly pleased with the interest shown by Year 11 students. A-Level music is a fantastic option for so many students and I look forward to working with year 11 students as they move into the sixth form next year.

So, it is the most wonderful time of the year and very soon Santa will be coming to town. I hope that you enjoy the music that we provide and that you can join us for one of our events. If you have any questions about music then please do email me. I am always keen to stress that it is never too late to start learning an instrument. We are also always happy to see new students in our choirs and ensembles.

And finally, we wish Mr. Thomas a very Happy Birthday for Thursday this week. We celebrated with some nice, and some rather dodgy renditions of Happy Birthday! It’s the one song that we all should know the words for!
