Director of Music Report for TWBS – Week 15 - Jan 7, 2022
Happy New Year to you all, I hope you enjoyed your Christmas break.
Term didn’t end quite as planned in December, but we still ended in style. Our two Sixth form rock bands (Euphoria & The Replicants) put on an open air gig at break time at the end of the day. It felt like everyone was in the quad listening to them – and we even had bubbles & snow! It was a lovely end to a tough term and I am glad that music was able to send everyone off into the break.
January is always quieter for the Music department, and this new variant is making it even quieter. However, we still have rehearsals every day, lessons happening and students learning instruments. There is never a dull moment in the department and I am pleased that we have already got things back up and running this week.
I wonder if you are thinking of doing something new in 2022 – I am talking to the students mainly! Maybe you might like to come along to choir on Monday at Break 1, or start learning an instrument? We have the opportunities there for you, will you take them? I am particularly keen to get students signed up for instrumental lessons and we have drums & guitar that are proving particularly popular. If you want to learn but you feel financially it might be a stretch, please do get in touch with me as I have some new funding that could be made available to you.
For students in Year 9, you should all have access to Soundtrap. I have an exciting competition on Soundtrap that I will be launching next week. Listen out for information in your music lessons regarding this Soundtrap Composition Competition! There are prizes to be won!
This term we are looking ahead to Wednesday 30th March and our Upper Schools Spring Concert. We will also have a Night at the Musicals on Monday 31st January in the Drama Studio Theatre. Please do keep an eye on our Twitter & Instagram for all the latest news and photos.
We are also excited about the Platinum Jubilee and the “Schools Week” that is taking place 23rd – 27th May 2022. We will be heavily involved in all the action as I am on the organising committee for the Platinum Jubilee. That week we have a concert planned on Thursday 26th May and I am really excited to be partnering with all the local schools for this event!
Let’s make 2022 an even more musical year than 2021. Start something new, come to a concert and adults I do run an adult choir if you want to start singing!
