Director of Music Report for TWBS – Week 14 - Dec 17, 2021
Well, it’s not quite the end of term any of us wanted. But it is the end of a rather special term where so much has come to life again in the music department. We have had numerous in school performances, a Night at the musicals, an Autumn Concert, gigs in the community and of course The Little Mermaid. Post Covid we have bounced back, and the students have all been incredible. I am so proud of all we have achieved, both in and out of the classroom. I really do offer a heartfelt thanks to all the students and staff who have made music making possible again.
This week we did manage one performance at the Ice Rink. The sixth form musicians sung carols and then Euphoria performed an excellent set of Christmas classics. Euphoria are made up of students in Year 12 and they are going from strength to strength.
If you have not been to our Carol service in the past, then you won’t know quite what a special event it is. I am saddened not to be at the church today, but it can’t be helped. The school has the tough decision to make and I think looking at the state of things it was the right choice. We will be back and I hope you will be able to join us next year. What makes it special is that it really does represent what Windsor Boys’ School is all about – a community. We are an incredible community made up of students, staff, former staff, former students, parents, guardians, carers and family members. The carol service allows all to gather and sing together, and it really is special.
I am sorry not to be welcoming you into the church, but I hope you have enjoyed something musical this term. Thanks for the support and I look forward to more events in 2022. I am committed to providing as many opportunities for as many students as possible. I love working for Windsor Learning Partnership as I get to see so many young people enjoying music. I have spent my entire career at TWBS and I have loved every minute! It is a special school and has a rich and wonderful history! The carol service is very much part of that – see you at the church on December 16th 2022!
This week at Dedworth Green First School I had the pleasure of working with all year groups in their outdoor carol events. I have taught them the songs on zoom, and they have learnt them – technology can help and is a positive by-product of the pandemic! In their very first “Pick Up performance” they sang their hearts out. I call them Pick Up Performances because they happen at pick up time! To think that these very students might one day be on stage at The Windsor Boys’ School is the fuel to keep me going. I am inspired by all the students I work with, and I can’t wait to get things back to full capacity!
Last year I put together a video in place of our 2020 Carol service. You can watch this on YouTube and sing along! It is not the same, but it is something. Sadly I didn’t have time to put this together at the last minute this year! – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUWqTrMZgzE&t=10s Hark The Herald Angels Sing, Glory to the newborn King!
Merry Christmas to you all and a very Happy New Wear. I think 2022 is going to be a very special year for the schools in Windsor Learning Partnership! And I know music will be at the heart of that.
