Director of Music Report for TWBS – Week 13 - Dec 10, 2021

It is hard to put into words how I feel after The Little Mermaid production. The fact that we managed to do it is one thing. The fact that it was a sell-out fantastic show is another.  I am immensely proud of the production, and I still can’t believe in the face of Covid that we managed to do it!

The reason we managed to do it is all down to the dedication of the staff and cast. We all worked incredibly hard to make it happen and stopped at nothing to keep the quality as high as possible. It was a tough process and a long week, but it was totally worth it.

My thanks go to colleagues Miss Walter, Mr Thomas and Miss Walker who gave up numerous hours to make this show happen. Miss Walter, in particular, was right by my side from start to finish. I would also like to thank our sponsors – Susan Handy Dance, Dawkes Music and The Alma Public House.  Thanks to all the parents, staff and friends who supported the event.  Thanks to the Friends of Windsor Upper Schools Music for the raffle, which raised an amazing amount of money that will go back into school music.

I will sum up the week by saying that it brought joy to all those who were in it and saw it. We had standing ovations every night and we really couldn’t be more proud of what happened in the hall last week. Thanks to all the school leaders who let us put it on against the odds. If you missed it, then you missed out.  But we will of course be back next year with another production.

And now we focus on Christmas carols and we are still planning to put on our carol services next week.  Mr Furness will comment on the plans more in this newsletter.  But I will just add that I can’t wait to see you at the church for some carols.  The musicians are working really hard at the moment and I hope that we will be able to share our work with you.

Music is a huge part of school life, and this term it really does come to the fore.  I am proud to lead this wonderful department and I believe that it really does matter to all the students who are part of it.

Thanks for all the support last week and in the week ahead.  Hark the Herald Angels Sing!  See you at the church.

Please do sign up for the Thursday evening service which is all down to go ahead – https://forms.office.com/r/djehn5GXq3
