Director of Music Report for TWBS – Week 10 - Nov 19, 2021
Christmas really is coming! This week we have been rehearsing in earnest for our carol services and we are looking forward to the events very much. The students are working really hard, and we continue to keep everything going despite a few Covid knock-backs.
Sunday saw us take part in the Civic Service of Remembrance in Windsor. Dan Usher in Year 12 provided “The Last Post” and I must say he played it incredibly well. That is a high profile solo and he coped with the nerves and handled it all really well.
On Thursday, I had a wonderful meeting with colleagues at Eton College looking at partnering with them on some projects next year. Watch this space for more information on that.
Thursday night we spent the evening in Eton where the Big Band performed for the Christmas lights switch on. We played two sets of music and the students were fantastic. We also performed carols with Eton College students which was a lovely display of partnership work in action. The evening wasn’t too cold, and there was a large turnout as ever. It was lovely to get in the festive spirit and thanks to Mr Thomas for joining me for the evening. It was great to play carols and be part of a great community evening.
Rehearsals for The Little Mermaid have continued, and we are very much looking forward to the show! The set is starting to go up and we will soon be getting the costumes and putting the whole thing together. Please do buy a ticket ASAP as they are selling fast! – https://www.trybooking.co.uk/BIAX
As mentioned, we are now rehearsing for our carol services. These take place at the end of term and here are the details.
Thursday 16th December, 19:00, Windsor Parish Church – Open to all parents. No ticket required but we will be releasing a form to fill in so that we have some idea of numbers. See the newsletter next week for more information and a link to the form to complete.
Friday 17th December, 12:00, Windsor Parish Church – Open to parent of musicians and old boys. This is our service for the school students plus a few former staff. We ask that you come to the evening service as this one can get rather full. Parents of musicians & singers are welcome at this event, but we do need to be careful on numbers.
The church is a nice big space with lots of airflow. We will however be asking for masks to be worn and if you are able to take a Lateral Flow Test before coming that would be great. Donations are taken at the end of the service to go towards the work of the church and the restoration of the organ – something we hope to use in the future.
I am really looking forward to the month ahead. Music really does take centre stage at Christmas and I am sure that you will enjoy all that we have to offer.
